In January 2016, I created a website where anyone could submit their mailing address and a story about their life. In return, I mailed them a carefully chosen, handwritten quote.

I heard from high school students struggling to come out to their parents, 50-somethings who have yet to find love and who fear they will never experience it, parents grieving the loss of their children, grandparents who want to be creative in their last decade, and almost everything in between.

I mailed nearly 1,000 quotes to participants all over the world – people said that their quote came at the perfect time, that it’s framed in their home, that it brought them to tears.
