In January 2016, I created a website where anyone could submit their mailing address and a story about their life. In return, I mailed them a carefully chosen, handwritten quote. Packaged like a special object, the quote was written with a nib on thick paper and placed in a large envelope sealed with a wax stamp.

Over the course of six months, I mailing nearly 1,000 quotes to participants all over the world. I heard from high school students struggling to come out to their parents, 50-somethings who fear they will never experience love, parents grieving the loss of their children, grandparents who want to be creative in their last decade, and almost everything in between.
